Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, also known as Bone Thugs or Bone, is an American hip hop group from Cleveland, formed in 1991. In 1993, after the release of their first album Faces of Death, the crew auditioned for Eazy-E in his dressing room following his show in Cleveland. The audition later resulted in Eazy signing them up to his label, Ruthless Records. Under the new record, Bone released their debut album, Creepin on ah Come Up, in 1994. The album reached No. 12 on Billboard 200, and No. 2 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Hit singles from the album are "Thuggish Ruggish Bone", and "Foe tha Love of $", which features a verse from the O.G. rapper Eazy-E and made it to No. 39 on Hot 100. The album had a major shift in style which diversified from gangster rap to G-funk. Unfortunately, Eazy-E died in 1995 from complications with AIDS related pneumonia. With the loss of such an influential figure, Ruthless Records kept on Bone due to their potential.
In 1995, Bone released their second studio album, E. 1999 Eternal, which consists of some of the group’s notable Top Hot 100 hits, “1st of tha Month” and “Tha Crossroads”. The album’s name comes from the crew’s hangout corner spot E. 99th street and St. Clair, and Eazy-E’s album, Eternal E, as a sign of respect and tribute to the late legend. Bone released their third double-disc album, The Art of War, in 1997, featuring single hits “Look into My Eyes” and “If I Could Teach the World”, and album track “Thug Luv” featuring the late Tupac Shakur. Shakur was shot and killed prior to the album release. Bone released three more albums, BTNHResurrection (2000), Thug World Order (2002), and Thug Stories (2006), before releasing their more mainstream album Strength & Loyalty, in 2007. The album features an array of artists, such as Mariah Carey, the Game, will.i.am, Akon, Twista, Bow Wow, Yolanda Adams, and Felecia. It went on to peak at No. 2 on Billboard 200 and is Gold certified.
Throughout the years, each member delved into their own solo music career while group member, Flesh-n-Bone, spent almost a decade in prison since 2000. The full reunion is marked with their 2010 album, Uni5: The World’s Enemy. Bone Thugs-n-Harmony released their final album in 2015, E. 1999 Legends, with just one copy ever made. However, in 2017, crew members Krayzie Bone and Bizzy Bone announced their debut album, New Waves, under the new crew name Bone Thugs. In 2024, Bone signed with Greenback Records, a new label founded by Irish mixed martial arts fighter Conor McGregor.
Since formation, the crew has released 11 studio albums and 23 singles, including "Look into My Eyes", "If I Could Teach the World", "I Tried" featuring Akon, "Meet Me In the Sky", and "Fantasy" featuring Jesse Rankins. Bone’s lasting legacy has millions of global fans, with 5 Million monthly listeners on just Spotify.
Three 6 Mafia is an American hip hop group, formed in 1991. The crew’s style was often described as horror-themed underground hip hop. DJ Paul and Lord Infamous initially began collaborating under the name Da Serial Killaz, later taking on Juicy J after crossing paths. In 1993, the crew released their notable record, Come With Me to Hell, featuring what later became Three 6 Mafia hits, "Tear da Club Up" and "Porno Movie". The same year, Lord Infamous rapped a line for “The Backyard Posse” which referred to his crew as the “ Triple Six Mafia”, which later was adapted by the group as it was the perfect fit for their dark music. Also in 1994, the group added its fourth official member, rapper Koopsta Knicca, and released their mixtape, titled Smoked Out, Loced Out. In 1995, the crew brought on additional rappers Crunchy Black and Gangsta Boo, forming the full lineup. The same year, the group officially changed their name to Three 6 Mafia and released its debut album Mystic Stylez.
The crew saw their big breakthrough after the success of their LP, When the Smoke Clears: Sixty 6, Sixty 1, released in 2000. The album received RIAA Platinum certification, and featured hit single "Sippin' on Some Syrup", featuring UGK. in 2003, the group released another successful album titled, Da Unbreakables, with hit singles "Ridin' Spinners" and "Testin' My Gangsta", and it is Gold certified. Three 6 Mafia’s most commercially successful LP is their 2005 release, Most Known Unknown, which went on to chart at No. 3 on Top 200 and sold over 1.5 Million copies. The album features some of their most influential hits "Side 2 Side", "Poppin' My Collar", and "Stay Fly". In 2006, Three 6 Mafia became the first hip hop group to win the Academy Award for Best Original Song for their hit track "It's Hard out Here for a Pimp".
In 2013, five out of six crew members – DJ Paul, Crunchy Black, Koopsta Knicca, Lord Infamous and Gangsta Boo – reunited under a new name Da Mafia 6ix, and fans were told it is a completely new group, and not a reunion. Later that year, Da Mafia 6ix released their first mixtape 6iX Commandments, and debuted at No. 34 on the US Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. The same year, the group faced the death of Lord Infamous after a heart attack. In 2014, some crew members left the group to focus on solo projects. And in 2015, the group faced the loss of Koopsta Knicca, after being hospitalized for a few days due to a stroke. In 2019, Three 6 Mafia revival was announced by DJ Paul and Juicy J. In 2023, Gangsta Boo was found dead due to accidental overdose, another tragic loss for the group.
Since 1991, Three 6 Mafia have released nine studio albums and up to 20 singles. They have a worldwide fanbase and up to 5 Million monthly streamers on their Spotify account, each month.
