The 37-date trek kicks off in June and comes to Tinley Park, Illinois, on the 26th! The Kingdom Tour featuring Maverick City Music and Kirk Franklin takes over the Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre on Sunday 7th August 2022 (Rescheduled from Sunday 26th June 2022)! Maverick City Music is not your traditional gospel group. The collective comprises several artists from diverse backgrounds, some from marginalized circumstances. Maverick City Music provides these artists with an outlet and a voice to express themselves through contemporary Christian music. The group was created by Tony Brown and Jonathan Jay in 2018. They released their debut EP, Maverick City, Vol. 1, in 2019. The record entered the top 10 on the Billboard Top Gospel Albums chart. The group’s subsequent releases all entered the charts as well – some peaking at number 1 on both the Top Gospel Albums chart and Top Christian Albums chart. Moreover, Maverick City Music’s most notable singles have also entered the Billboard charts. “Promises” featuring Joe L Barnes and Naomi Raine peaked at number 1 on the Hot Christian Songs, Christian Airplay, and the US Gospel charts.
With their genre-bending music style, the group has earned a loyal following and critical acclaim. In 2021, Maverick City Music won a Billboard Music Award for Top Gospel Album and two GMA Dove Awards for New Artist of the Year and Worship Album of the Year. This year, group received four nominations and one win at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards this year.
Maverick City Music co-headlines the Kingdom Tour with fellow urban gospel artist Kirk Franklin. A 16-time Grammy Award-winning artist, Franklin initially worked with friends and community members to record his first album under the name Kirk Franklin & The Family. They released their self-titled debut album in 1993, peaking and staying on at number 1 for 42 weeks on the Billboard Top Gospel Albums chart. Kirk Franklin eventually embarked on a solo career and released several more highly-acclaimed albums.
